Lady Cardinals hold off Odin in extras

Woodlawn's softball team edged Odin 9-8 in nine innings Tuesday.Woodlawn scored four times in the top of the ninth to take a 9-5 lead. Odin responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.Paige Tufts was the winning pitcher and threw seven and two thirds innings. She had four strikeouts. Carly Ethridge earned the save.Cassandra Lueking delivered a two-run homer in the ninth to help the Lady Cardinals. Sam Williams added three hits and an RBI. Payton Tufts added two hits.Woodlawn is 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the Midland Trail Conference. The Lady Cardinals host Grayville on Thursday.

Trojans shut down Spartans

Webber's baseball team beat Waltonville 15-0 Tuesday.Logan Ganieany was the winning pitcher for Webber and threw four innings. He allowed just one hit and finished with seven strikeouts.Gage Raudenbush and Levi Aydt both had four hits each for Webber. Austin Gowler and Ty Henderson had three each.Nick Marlo had a hit for Waltonville.Webber improved to 12-4 this season and travels to Crab Orchard today. Waltonville is 2-8 and plays at Cisne on Thursday.

    It's been a wild couple days for Cardinals fans.

    They've seen their team and management engage in a flurry of deadline trading activity unlike the past few seasons. St. Louis ripped off a deal a day in the two leading up to the deadline.

  • Rams spend time at SIU football camp

    The Rams football team spent a little time away from their traditional summer practice setting at the end of last week.

    On Thursday close to three dozen sophomores, juniors and seniors traveled to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a football team camp. The camp, which included three other high schools, wrapped up Saturday.

  • Sam Root award Root calls award 'humbling'

    Webber's baseball team capped the season with several individual honors, and coach Sam Root recently added to the postseason awards list.

    Root, who guided the Trojans to the 1A state finals in Peoria this spring, was named the Southern Illinois Baseball Coaches Association 1A Coach of the Year.
