MT. VERNON —

Waltonville to hold golf tryouts

 

The Waltonville/Sesser-Valier boys and girls golf teams will host tryouts later this month.

The tryouts will be held at Mt. Vernon's Indian Hills Golf Course at 9 a.m. Wednesday-Thursday Aug. 14-15 and 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16.

Tryouts are open to students from Waltonville and Sesser-Valier High Schools. Athletes must have a current physical on file at Waltonville in order to compete.

Woodlawn to host sports tryouts

 

Woodlawn will hold tryouts for golf and volleyball later this month.

Golf tryouts will be 9-11 a.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 14-15 at Mt. Vernon's Indian Hills Golf Course.

Volleyball tryouts will be 8-10 a.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 14-15 at the high school.

All participants must have a physical on file before trying out.

 

Travel softball team to hold tryouts

 

The Southern Illinois Sting softball team is holding tryouts this week.

The tryouts for the squad will be Sunday at Woodlawn's Chapman Sports Complex.

The 12u and 14u tryouts will be 1-3 p.m. with 16u tryouts from 3-5 p.m.

RLC to host softball showcase

 

Rend Lake College will host a softball showcase for high school and junior college plays.

The showcase will be 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 16 and costs $30.

Jade Geuther, the head softball coach at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee will be running the showcase. He is a ASA softball Hall of Famer and former RLC assistant coach.

  • Rams spend time at SIU football camp

    The Rams football team spent a little time away from their traditional summer practice setting at the end of last week.

    On Thursday close to three dozen sophomores, juniors and seniors traveled to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a football team camp. The camp, which included three other high schools, wrapped up Saturday.

    Webber's baseball team capped the season with several individual honors, and coach Sam Root recently added to the postseason awards list.

    Root, who guided the Trojans to the 1A state finals in Peoria this spring, was named the Southern Illinois Baseball Coaches Association 1A Coach of the Year.
