WALTONVILLE — Christopher used a big second quarter run to beat Webber 57-19 in Monday’s opening round 1A regional game.

“We came out playing pretty good at first, but then we kind of got tired and their size and athleticism wore us out,” Webber coach Chad Harper said. “We had all kinds of issues on the offensive end.”

Koaltin Dye led Webber with six points and added five rebounds. Ty Henderson had five points and nine rebounds. Christopher put a pair of players in double figures. Eric Young led the Bearcats with 20 points. Tyler Atchison finished with 13.

Webber kept the game close early behind several long-range shots. Dye put the Trojans up 6-5 with a 3-pointer midway through the opening quarter. Early in the second period Dye and Henderson helped chip away at the Christopher lead. Dye opened the quarter with his second trey. Henderson followed with a jumper that made the score 12-11.

Christopher answered with a 12-0 run. Several of the Bearcats’ baskets ended with transition layups. The run helped Christopher build a 26-14 halftime lead.

“The turnovers just ate us up,” Harper said. “They were getting layups. Anytime you give up layups in transition, you don’t give yourself a chance to play halfcourt defense.”

Webber’s offense struggled through the second half. The Trojans managed just five points over the final two quarters and watched Christopher push its advantage past 30 points.

“I knew Christopher was going to be a tough, tough game,” Harper said. “We came out and competed, had a little trouble in the second half, but for the most part they came out and fought.”

Christopher faces Waltonville in Wednesday’s semifinal game. Webber finished the year with eight wins.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the boys,” Harper said. “They made it fun for me, and they had a little success.”
