Mt. Vernon used a trio of pitchers in the game. Trevor Flota, the winning pitcher, started and threw four innings He finished with six strikeouts and allowed four hits.
Tyler Morgan and Thomas Weber both threw an inning each for the Rams. Weber pitched his way out of a key bases loaded jam in the sixth while allowing just a single run.
“We would have loved to get through with one guy on the mound, but you just have to adjust to the game. And we were able to,” Holloway said.
Mt. Vernon is 18-5 overall this season and 4-1 in the South Seven Conference. The Rams have won eight straight games and travel to Herrin today.
“I think we're getting better, as the season goes along, which is what we have to do,” Holloway said. “We want to be playing our best baseball come May.”
