Rams win cross country meet at SIU

Mt. Vernon's boys cross country team won a quad meet at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale on Tuesday.

The Rams David Modert won the race in a time of 16:22.

The Rams finished with 27 points. Other team scores were: Marion 55, Carbondale 61 and Centralia 95.

Other results for the Rams were: Jordan Wilemon fifth (17:19), Ethan Badger sixth (17:30), Brykell Patton eighth (17:36), Tyler Williams 12th (18:15), Hagen Schneider 14th (18:22), Jordan Hubbard 16th (18:36).

There were a total of 39 runners in the meet. The Rams run at Olney on Saturday.


Lady Ram golfers edge Centralia on tiebreaker

Paetyn Hayes' score made all the difference in Mt. Vernon's girls golf win over Centralia on Tuesday.

The two teams finished tied at 210. The tie was broken with each team's fifth golfer. Hayes finished with a 56 and was seven shots better than the Annies fifth golfer.

Alex Pigg led the Lady Rams with a 51. Other Mt. Vernon scores were: Rachel Bolerjack 52, Colleen Ashby 52, Chelsea Sprinkle 55 and Lydia King 69.

Pinckneyville also competed but didn't record a team score. Centralia's Lacey McTall was the match medalist with a 40.


Rams blank Salem

Mt. Vernon's boys soccer team traveled to Salem and won 3-0 Tuesday.

Braydon Riley, Joseph McDanel and Mac Jones all scored for the Rams. Hunter Schrader provided an assist on Riley's score.

Mt. Vernon goalie J.J. Wiegel saved the only shot of the game from Salem.

Mt. Vernon is 6-3 this season and hosts Belleville Althoff on Saturday.


Lady Rams compete in quad meet

Mt. Vernon's girls cross country team was third in a quad meet at SIU on Tuesday.

Kate Bushue led Mt. Vernon with a fourth-place finish in a time of 21:18.

Marion won the event with a score of 30. Other team scores were: Carbondale 48, Centralia 91 and Mt. Vernon 91. The Lady Rams beat Centralia on a tiebreaker.

  • Rams spend time at SIU football camp

    The Rams football team spent a little time away from their traditional summer practice setting at the end of last week.

    On Thursday close to three dozen sophomores, juniors and seniors traveled to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a football team camp. The camp, which included three other high schools, wrapped up Saturday.
