Other Mt. Vernon results were: Camilla Bauer 13th (23:32), Zoe Mattingly 19th (24:57), Makayla Moore 23rd (25:35), Shayln Crane 32nd (27:42) and Kira Young 37th (29:41).

Mt. Vernon travels to Olney on Saturday.


Woodlawn golfers take triangular

Woodlawn's boys golf team topped Waltonville and Zeigler-Royalton on Tuesday.

Trevor Fauss, Wyatt Jennings and Ronnie Brake led the Cardinals with a 42. Other Woodlawn scores were: Jayson Hapeman 44, Dallas Quarterman 45 and Brett Harris 46.

Sean Scott led Waltonville with a 41. Other scores for the Spartans were: Justin Winchester 43, Luke Thompson 45, D.J. Nelson 47 and Dylan Miller 55.


Waltonville's Haley wins match medalist

Waltonville's Jerrica Haley finished as the golf match medalist against Zeigler-Roylaton on Tuesday.

Haley was the lone competitor for Waltonville and finished with a 43.

Taylor Tufts and Holli Buretta led Woodlawn a 52 each. Other Woodlawn scores were: Paige Laughhunn 54, Sabryn Griffin 58, Sadie Powell 58 and Kaci Hails 58.


Witges throws no-hitter in Waltonville softball win

Waltonville junior high softball pitcher Taylor Witges hurled a no-hitter in her team's 10-0 win against Summersville.

Witges finished with seven strikeouts and two walks. She added a single and a double.

Mikayla Robbers finished with two singles for Waltonville. Julie Baumgarte added a single and a home run. Destiny Holtz had three singles.


RLC tennis competes in Benton

The Rend Lake College women's tennis players went head to head at the Benton Pizza Hut Open Tournament recently.

Marisa Uhls, a Mt. Vernon graduate, beat teammate Evelyn Mendez in singles play. Mendez and Paige Hutchcraft beat Uhls and Katie Wall (Mt. Vernon).

My players were in an open draw and played various players not in a team event,” RLC coach Dave Junkins said. “It was still a good win for us all.”


Lady Warriors place 10th in golf tournament

The Rend Lake College women's golf team finished 10th at the Screaming Eagle Golf Classic.

The Lady Warriors scored a 676 in the two-day event. RLC freshman Kaylyn Fuhrhop led the team with a 162.

  • Rams spend time at SIU football camp

    The Rams football team spent a little time away from their traditional summer practice setting at the end of last week.

    On Thursday close to three dozen sophomores, juniors and seniors traveled to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a football team camp. The camp, which included three other high schools, wrapped up Saturday.

    Webber's baseball team capped the season with several individual honors, and coach Sam Root recently added to the postseason awards list.

    Root, who guided the Trojans to the 1A state finals in Peoria this spring, was named the Southern Illinois Baseball Coaches Association 1A Coach of the Year.
