MT. VERNON — The Lady Rams volleyball team and Centralia are in reverse positions heading into this year's regional action in West Frankfort.
A season ago, Mt. Vernon had the momentum of two regular season wins when the two teams clashed in the postseason. This time it's the Annies who scored a pair of regular season victories over Mt. Vernon.
“We've been talking about this game coming up for about a week how we don't want Centralia to get us for the third time, especially because we think we should have taken them the last two times,” Mt. Vernon coach Angie Higgins said. “The girls seem pretty pumped up. They seem pretty confident that they're going to come ready to go and play as a team.”
Higgins said her Lady Rams have struggled in both meeting against the Annies this season.
“Both times we have played them we have just completely crumbled as a team,” Higgins said. “We didn't block. We didn't pass. We couldn't serve. We couldn't do anything.”
The Lady Rams most recently notched a fourth-place finish in the Fairfield Invitational. Mt. Vernon beat Carterville, Casey Westfield and Clay City.
“We had a great few games at the tournament on Saturday, and if they can just come back and play just like that we'll be in it for sure,” Higgins said.
Mt. Vernon is 15-13 this season and tonight's game starts at about 7 p.m.
