Alton finished second followed by Marion and Herrin.

Jade Knox and Catie Raney won the No. 1 doubles flight. The two beat Alton 6-1, 6-3; Marion 6-3, 6-1 and Herrin 6-2, 6-1.

Shubhika Jain and Liz Hurst won the No. 3 doubles flight. Jain and Hurst beat Alton 6-1, 6-4; Marion 6-1, 6-2 and Herrin 6-0, 6-2.

Freshman Shreya Nair and Anessa Montgomery were unbeaten in No. 4 doubles. The duo beat Alton 6-3, 7-5; Marion 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 and Herrin 6-3, 6-0.

The Lady Rams No. 2 doubles team of Gauri Kaushal and Amanda Scott placed third overall. The team beat Marion and lost to Alton and Herrin.

All of our players displayed a lot of determination and played well in the 95-degree heat,” Mt. Vernon coach Randy Knox said. “I liked the ground strokes and net game of Jade and Catie at No. 1. They seemed confident and played well together.

Shubhika and Liz really hustled and placed the ball well at No. 3 doubles. They seemed to be in control of each of their three matches. I was impressed with the composure and strokes under pressure by our freshmen Shreya and Anessa.”

Mt. Vernon is back in action today at home against Benton.
