---- — MT. VERNON – The Lady Rams rallied once but couldn't do it again in an 11-8 loss Thursday to Marion.

“The positive is we didn't just lay down and roll over,” Mt. Vernon coach Lance Boldt said. “We got down early 7-0, and we came back and scratched away.”Marion jumped to a huge advantage early in the game. The Lady Wildcats used a six-run second inning to build a 7-0 edge. The Lady Rams rallied in the fourth inning. Down 7-2, Mt. Vernon piled up six runs to take a temporary lead.Page Clinton rocked a two-run double that sliced the deficit down to 7-6. Kelby Kujawa tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and Hannah Wright gave the Lady Rams a 8-7 advantage. Wright knocked a single, scoring Clinton.“I don't know if early in the year that would have happened,” Boldt said. “That's a real positive.”The Mt. Vernon advantage lasted until the sixth when Marion pushed across a pair of runs to grab a 9-8 edge. The Lady Wildcats padded their lead in the seventh with two more scores.“Late in the game, they kept hitting, we didn't,” Boldt said. “I felt like we let them take that lead, and those last couple innings we didn't do a whole lot.”After the huge fourth inning, the Mt. Vernon bats fell silent. The Lady Rams didn't get another hit in their final three times at the plate and were retired in order each inning.“Nothing different,” Boldt said. “We are a team of momentums. Hitting is contagious, I guess, with the Lady Rams in 2013. When things are going well, we keep hitting and once the other team puts a stop to it I guess that's just it.”Mt. Vernon dropped to 5-8 overall this season and 2-4 in the South Seven Conference.
