Rams run to victory at Marion Relays

Mt. Vernon's boys track team claimed its third straight title at the Marion Relays on Friday night.The Rams finished with 134 points. Other team scores were: Salem 93, Centralia 86, Murphysboro 80, Mascoutah 77, Granite City 67, Marion 66, Wesclin 57, Carbondale 54, O'Fallon 10 and Egyptian 8.Winners for the Rams were: the mile relay team of David Modert, Karson Hahn, Daniel Flood and Jordan Wilemon in a time of 18:58.4; Robert Grider in the 100 meters (11.31 seconds); the sprint medley team of Demontez Miller, Crayton Turner, Brykell Patton and Ethan Badger (2:03.3); the 400 meter relay team of Grider, Turner, Miller and Steve Boss (44.59 seconds); the 3,200 meter relay team of Jake Wilson, Patton, Xavies Mooney and Badger (8:32.4); the 800 meter relay team of Grider, Turner, Miller and Boss (1:33.6) and the 1,600 relay team of Miller, Hahn, Grider and Boss (3:31.2)Second-place finishers were: Patton in the 110 high hurdles (15.35 seconds) and the distance medley team of Hahn, Wilson, Wilemon and Modert.The boys track team hosts the Ram Relays at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

  • Rams spend time at SIU football camp

    The Rams football team spent a little time away from their traditional summer practice setting at the end of last week.

    On Thursday close to three dozen sophomores, juniors and seniors traveled to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a football team camp. The camp, which included three other high schools, wrapped up Saturday.

  • Sam Root award Root calls award 'humbling'

    Webber's baseball team capped the season with several individual honors, and coach Sam Root recently added to the postseason awards list.

    Root, who guided the Trojans to the 1A state finals in Peoria this spring, was named the Southern Illinois Baseball Coaches Association 1A Coach of the Year.

     Jake Odorizzi allowed two runs over 5 2-3 innings and Yunel Escobar highlighted a five-run fifth inning with a two-run double to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-2 victory over the StLouis Cardinals on Tuesday night.
