Rams rock Cahokia

Mt. Vernon’s baseball team beat Cahokia 10-1 Wednesday.

Landon Thomas was the winning pitcher for the Rams. He threw a complete game and fanned 12 batters.

At the plate, Thomas had two hits and three RBI. Jake Pike added four hits and two RBI. Trevor Flota finished with a pair of hits.

Cahokia’s only run of the game came in the opening inning.

Mt. Vernon is 23-5 this season and 7-1 in South Seven Conference action.

Lady Rams finish 4th at South Seven meet

Mt. Vernon’s girls track team placed fourth at the recent South Seven Conference meet held in Cahokia.

Aaliyah Palmer tied a school record in the shot put and the team finished with 14 personal bests.

Palmer threw the shot put 39 feet, six and a half inches and finished second overall. Palmer was also second in the discus with a throw of 111 feet, four inches.

Charde Golliday was second in the 400 meters (1:00.5), fourth in the 200 meters (26.39 seconds), fifth in the 100 meters (12.55 seconds) and fifth in long jump (16 feet, nine and a half inches).

The 3,200 meter relay team of Ashley Paulson, Camilla Bauer, Zoe Mattingly and Rebecca Rexing won with a time of 11:11.36.

The 1,600 meter relay team of Paulson, Allie Skobel, Rexing and Kaelynn Hendricks was fourth (4:53.76).

Fifth-place finishers were: Ashley Henry in the shot put (89 feet, four inches), Paulson in the 800 meters (2:44.8), Bauer in the 1,600 meters (6:10.15) and Paulson in the 300 hurdles (57.04).

Cardinals edge Grayville

Woodlawn’s baseball team beat Grayville 10-8 Wednesday.

Garrett Minks was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. He thew five innings and had four strikeouts.

Brendan Petersen and Minks had two hits and two RBI each for Woodlawn. Logan Isaac added four hits.

Woodlawn is 13-6 this season and hosts Patoka today.

Nashville upends Lady Cardinals

Woodlawn’s softball team lost 15-0 to Nashville on Wednesday.

    Around 1,600 participants gathered in Sparta for the AIM Grand Championships earlier this week. Waltonville Trapshooting was among the teams competing, and claimed the Junior Class D National team title. The event involves teams from a variety of states and provided the year-old trapshooting program with a memorable moment.
