Post 141 falls at Centralia

CENTRALIA — Centralia broke a 6-6 deadlock with a four-run outburst in the seventh inning to take a 10-7 West Division Senior Legion victory over Mt. Vernon on Tuesday.

A bases-loaded single from Ryan White plated Matt Brashear, who led off the inning with a double up the middle. Then number nine hitter Nick Whitnour delivered the knockout blow with a two-run double to right.

Brashear's two-bagger was followed up with a single from B.J. Smith, who scored on a passed ball ahead of Whitnour's double.

Whitnour scored Lundyn Waithe, who received a free pass and White singled down the third-base line.

It was a tough loss for reliever Conner Storey, who came on in the fifth after Mt. Vernon tied the game in the top half of the inning.

Storey, a southpaw, faced just five batters in the fifth and faced the minimum in the sixth.

He did a great job coming in. I was very pleased with the way he threw the ball. It wasn't like he threw the ball poorly at all; we just had a few things that didn't go our way, and that's how the game of baseball is. It's tough,” said Mt. Vernon coach Pierce Borah, who saw his team end their season with a 7-9 record.

Our guys battled and we were in a position to win the game,” said Borah. “Their guys fought, they stuck around, they competed and did a nice job. The ball bounced their way today.”

Mt. Vernon grabbed a run lead in the first on an RBI single from Jake Pike, who plated leadoff hitter Zach Brookman who singled up the middle.

Centralia countered with two in the bottom half off starter Aaron Morgan, including one on an error.

Post 141 scored three runs in the fourth, including two runs on an infield error and an RBI single from Brock Fulkerson.
