Woodlawn baseball rolls past Waltonville

Logan Isaac pitched five innings and had six strikeouts in Woodlawn’s 13-1 win against Waltonville on Monday.

Brendan Petersen led the Cardinals offense with two whits and four RBI. Nathan Arnold added two hits, including a home run, and three RBI.

Bryson Sanders finished with three hits. Sean Scott and Reggie Eubanks had a hit each for Waltonville.

Woodlawn has won four straight games to improve to 5-6 overall this season. The Cardinals travel to Patoka on Wednesday.

SVW wins at Murphysboro

The Sesser-Valier/Waltonville girls track team won the Murphysboro Invitational.

The Lady Devils finished the invitational with 43 points and won four events.

Chelsea Miller led the team with a trio of victories. Miller won the 100 meters in a time of 12.78 seconds. She was victorious in the long jump, 200 and 400 meters as well.

Brianna Risley won the 100 meter hurdles in 21.15 seconds.

The 400 and 800 meter relay teams finished second for SVW. Emily VanDeveer was second in the high jump, and Savannah Boles was second in the triple jump.

Risley was third in the 300 meter low hurdles. Boles placed third in the long jump, and VanDeveer was third in the 200 meters.

MTV beats Greenville in tennis

Mt. Vernon’s boys tennis team beat Greenville 6-3 Monday.

The Rams won four singles matches. Aaron Neibert was victorious 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Nathan Arnold won 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2. Jared Hatton won 6-4, 7-6 at No. 3. Cody Wilson won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.

Wilson and Hatton teamed at No. 1 doubles to win 6-4, 6-0. The team of Neibert and Burge was victorious 6-0, 6-2.

Junior varsity winners were: Billy Fields, Dalton Barnes and Jordan Clarke.

Mt. Vernon is 2-1 this season and hosts Fairfield.
