MT. VERNON — Angie Carroll entered the volleyball season wanting a winning season.

Her Lady Rams delivered with a 16-10 regular season. Now the Mt. Vernon coach wants to see success in the postseason from her team.

“I have very high expectations for this team that we have now,” Carroll said. “And to not win a regional game I think would be a disappointment to me and the girls just because how far they have come.”

Mt. Vernon faces rival Centralia in the opening round of the 3A regional. The Annies host the five-team tournament and are the No. 3 seeded team. The Lady Rams are the second seed behind Benton.

“They would really like to win the regional because it’s something that doesn’t happen very often at Mt. Vernon, and I think that the girls they have the potential to do it,” Carroll said.

Mt. Vernon and Centralia split their regular season matchups with each team winning on the opponents home court. Mt. Vernon traveled north in early September and cruised to a two-set victory. The Annies returned the favor in the middle of October with a three-set win at Changnon Gym.

The Lady Rams finished the regular season last week playing three games in five days. A victory against Wayne City was sandwiched between losses to South Seven Conference foes Centralia and Carbondale.

Tonight’s game starts at 7 p.m.
