Bergbower, three Lady Rams advance

TROY — Three Mt. Vernon girls runners, and Webber’s Mallory Bergbower advanced to the cross country sectionals.

Mallory Bergbower finished fifth overall in a time of 20:07 at the 1A Chester regional Saturday. Red Bud’s Brittney Burmester won the individual title with a time of 18:48.

Three Mt. Vernon runners advanced from the 2A Triad regional. Rebecca Rexing led the Lady Rams with a 19-place finish in a time of 22:18. Camilla Bauer was 31st in a time of 22:32, and Zoe Mattingly finished 34th in a time of 22:45.

“I just said that if we run well we should be able to be in the mix and be able to advance,” Mt. Vernon coach Connie Harre-Blair said. “And so it was a good day.”

Mt. Vernon had four runners compete at the regional and didn’t finish with a team score. Carbondale won the team title with 59 points. Carbondale’s Emily Russell was the individual champion with a time of 19:38.
