David Modert and Kate Bushue scored a pair of top 10 finishes at the Centralia cross country invitational Saturday.

Modert led the Rams with a fourth-place finish in a time of 16:08. Bushue was ninth in the girls race in a time of 20:30. Mt. Vernon's team placed fifth in the boys race with a score of 112. O'Fallon won with a 46.

I'm happy with where we're at today,” Mt. Vernon boys coach Clint Turner said. “Marion's been running well and Carbondale's always going to get better, looking at the (South Seven) Conference meet next week so that's what I'm looking at.”

The Lady Rams were 13th overall with a score of 308. O'Fallon also won the girls meet with a 63.

Each meet now, it seems like we've been getting better and better,” Mt. Vernon girls coach Connie Harre-Blair said. “We have to consider today we ran with four freshmen and one sophomore. And they're just improving as we're going along.”

The girls raced first followed by the boys varsity competition. A light rain started to fall on the boys runners as the race was concluding. The rain steadily increased into a heavier downpour, causing the cancellation of the freshman/sophomore race.

(The rain) doesn't bother them at all,” Turner said of the conditions near the end of the boys race. “If anything, it helps them. They feel good. It cools them down. It's not that big a deal.”

Other results for the Rams were: Jordan Wilemon 15th (16:48), Hagan Schneider 29th (17:25), Daniel Flood 30th (17:27), Brykell Patton 39th (17:48) and Tyler Williams 69th (18:39).

Other results for the Lady Rams were: Camilla Bauer 39th (22:01), Shalyn Crane 64th (23:16), Makayla Moore 97th (25:37) and Kira Young 99th (25:43).
