MVTHS Athletic Hall of Fame inductees announced

He accepted a basketball scholarship to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where he played two years before finishing his career at Nicholls State University for his final two seasons.

Eddie King (Class of 1950)

King was a starter for Hall of Fame basketball squads that won back-to-back state championships in 1949 and 1950. The Rams lost just three games during the two seasons.

King played college basketball for Bradley University along with Mt. Vernon teammate and Hall of Famer John Riley. King's senior season Bradley lost in the NCAA championship game.

In 2011, King was honored by MVTHS with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

Steve Lively (Class of 1975)

Lively holds several Rams track and field records

He was nicknamed “The Flea” because of his sprinting abilities. He was a four-year letter winner in track and field along with a two-year letter winner in varsity football.

Lively still holds the school record in the 100 and 440 meters. His senior season, he was South Seven Conference champion in the 100, 220 and 440 meters.

His Rams teams won four consecutive conference championships from 1972-75.

Randy Odle (Class of 1969)

Since Odle's freshman year in 1966, he has attended every Mt. Vernon basketball game, home and away.

He has spent the past 34 years as a volunteer keeping the time clock at all home football games for freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams.

There's a lot of names on (the Hall of Fame), and it's an honor to be associated with them,” Odle said.

In April, Odle was also inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame as a friend of basketball.

Susie (Woodward) Maynard (Class of 1981)

Maynard starred for the basketball and softball Lady Rams.

She also competed for the inaugural girls cross country team.

She racked up 1,369 career points for the basketball team without a three-point line. She set the single game school record for points with 50 her sophomore year.
