Rams rock Triad

MT. VERNON — — The Rams offense rolled through Triad, and the defense came up with several second-half stops in a 48-21 win Friday.

I thought we had great effort on both sides of the ball,” Mt. Vernon football coach Jared Shaner said. “(We) made some mistakes defensively against the option, which we talked about it going in, that's why teams run it. That's why it's still around. That's why it's a great offense. It's tough to defend.”

The Rams used a wrecking ball rushing attack against the Knights. Mt. Vernon piled up a staggering 68 attempts on the ground.

We have an (offensive) line with four seniors,” Shaner said. “We have running backs who have carried the ball 100 to 150 times in their career, and then we have a couple of new running backs who are stepping in doing a nice job. So I felt like our running game was going to carry us.”

The Rams offensive line opened holes throughout the game for the Rams multi-pronged attack. Both Graham Henken (118 yards) and Demontez Miller-Gray (143 yards) finished with huge ground games.

The (offensive) line opened up a lot of holes for me,” Miller-Gray said. “I think I owe all that to them mostly.”

The Rams used Henken to pound away primarily up the middle. Miller-Gray used his shiftiness to shake defenders. He ripped off a 68-yard touchdown run late in the game to help seal the victory.

Mt. Vernon's offense scored seven of the eight times it touched the ball. The first seven drives each ended in touchdowns.

You can't complain too much,” Shaner said. “Seven times you touch it, seven times you score.”

Dylan Reeves helped put the Rams up 13-0 early with a pair of one-yard runs in the opening quarter.
