The Webber Township High School Trojans basketball team will be trying to show a vast improvement over last season’s winless record.
Chad Harper leads the Trojans into the 2012-13 campaign, after spending the last two years as the head coach at Waltonville High School. Harper has also been the head coach at Sandoval, as well as an assistant coach at Webber earlier in his career.
Harper lists Ty Henderson, Koaltin Dye, Greg O’Dell, Dakota Dickey, Alex Lynn and Zane Austin (all seniors) and Corey Hammer (freshman) as the players who will have the greatest impact this season.
Harper said that this team should be able to compete every night, with an eye on the Midland Trail Conference standings.
“We will be very competitive this year. There will be some good teams in the conference but I think we will be able to handle our own,” Harper said. “Our goal is to be towards the top in the standings at season’s end.”
Harper said the coaching staff has been busy focusing the team on the future.
“Coach (Brad) Beaty and I are establishing a culture here one day at a time. The boys are working very hard and getting better each day,” Harper said. “Right now, coach and I are excited about the progress we’re making in just a short amount of time. It’s all credited to the guys for coming in and doing what they have to do to get better as players. I expect us to compete and play hard each night, and in return that should give us a chance to get some wins throughout the season.”
