East St. Louis cop accused of being drunk on job

EAST ST. LOUIS (AP) — An East St. Louis police officer has been put on paid leave in response to claims by a family that he was drunk and used profane language while responding to a reported burglary.

The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/YhmuNm ) reports that Police Chief Michael Floore won't publicly name the veteran officer or discuss details of the matter.

But Don Brown tells the newspaper the complaint was related to the officer's response to a report Sunday that someone had ransacked and set fire to the home of Brown's stepdaughter.

Brown says the officer showed up smelling of alcohol, with a beer in the patrol car, and used profane language.
