Northern Illinois University to name new president

DeKALB (AP) — Northern Illinois University is getting ready to introduce its new president.

The university says its Board of Trustees will name the school's 12th president on Tuesday afternoon. A welcome ceremony will be held afterward.

The decision on a new president comes about a week after NIU trustees met four finalists in a closed off-campus meeting. The finalists were introduced the next day to faculty members, alumni and community leaders.

NIU President John Peters announced in October that he planned to retire in June after 13 years leading the DeKalb school.

NIU has nearly 23,000 students.
