ISU to host high school cyber defense competition

NORMAL (AP) — Teams of high school students will be defending computer networks against cyber-attacks as part of a competition hosted by Illinois State University.

The school announced the challenge Wednesday.

Seven teams from central Illinois high schools will try to secure their computers and networks against hacking attacks by teams of information-security professionals.

The teams will be evaluated based on their ability to keep critical programs and services running during the planned attacks.

Three teams are from Springfield, two from Decatur, one from Bloomington and another one from Riverton.

The competition will take place Friday. It is sponsored by the Department of Defense and administered by the National Security Agency.
