Chicago mayor: City won't bid for 2024 Olympics

—

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the city is not interested in hosting the 2024 Summer Olympic games.

Emanuel's position, expressed Tuesday through a spokesman, comes in response to a letter from the U.S. Olympic Committee.

In the letter, USOC CEO Scott Blackmun said the organization's objective is to "identify a partner city that can work with us to present a compelling bid to the IOC and that has the right alignment of political, business and community leadership." In the letter to 25 cities, Blackmun said there is no guarantee the USOC will bid for the games.

New York finished fourth in the international bidding for the 2012 Olympics, played in London. Chicago made a first-round exit in the vote for the 2016 Games, which will be in Rio de Janeiro.
