CARBONDALE (AP) — Texas Tech's efforts to find a new men's basketball coach has them taking a look at Southern Illinois coach Barry Hinson.
Hinson tells the (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan (http://bit.ly/YIdWLP ) that Salukis Athletic Director Mario Moccia granted the Red Raiders permission to speak with Hinson. That chat happened earlier this week.
The Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal also reports that Texas Tech has spoken with Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton, Indiana assistant coach Steve McClain and former Nebraska coach Kenneth "Doc" Sadler.
Hinson signed a five-year, roughly $1.5 million contract with the Salukis a year ago.
He guided Southern Illinois in his first season to a 14-17 record, including 6-12 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Hinson says he's "extremely happy at Southern Illinois" and wasn't actively searching for a new job.
