PEORIA (AP) — A central Illinois police chief has put two street gangs on notice.
Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard says he's zeroing in on the 4-Corner Hustlers and Zone 4 in his department's ongoing bid to stem gun violence.
He spoke to reporters Tuesday. Peoria's Journal Star (http://bit.ly/10RuPH4 ) reports Settingsgaard addressed gang members directly and warned, "You're next."
Combined, he estimates there are between 50 and 100 members of the gangs.
Police will boost their presence in the south end of Peoria where they're based. And Settingsgaard assures residents police will stay until the violence ebbs.
He added Peoria police are meeting with regional law enforcement to hammer out additional plans for countering the violence.
The action comes in the wake of several killings in the area in recent days.
