First lady to visit school impacted by violence

CHICAGO (AP) — First Lady Michelle Obama is coming to Chicago to address a conference on youth violence, after which she will visit a high school hard hit by violence.

Authorities say 29 current or former Harper High School students have been shot in the past year, eight of them fatally. Obama on Wednesday will talk with a group of students about their experiences.

Harper High is located in Chicago's Englewood community. Of its approximately 600 students, most are considered "low-income" and 22 percent take special education courses.

Before visiting Harper, Obama will speak at a luncheon hosted by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. A spokesman says the first lady is expected to talk about youth violence.

She is also expected to urge business leaders to invest in expanded opportunities for the city's young people.
