TUSCOLA (AP) — Police in the small eastern Illinois town of Tuscola say dozens of headstones at a local cemetery have been vandalized over the past week.
Tim Hilligoss is on the board of the Tuscola Township Cemetery. He tells The News-Gazette in Champaign (http://bit.ly/16Kb2d7) the cemetery sees a little vandalism every few years but never anything as extensive as what occurred last week.
Hilligoss says it has many residents of the small town located about 20 miles south of Champaign upset.
Tuscola Police Chief Craig Hastings said most of the headstones were damaged Saturday night. The rest were damaged the night of April 2.
Employees from a local headstone company have been working to replace the damaged markers.
No arrests have been made.
