Two East St. Louis children shot

EAST ST. LOUIS (AP) — A 7-month-old boy and a 5-year-old girl have been shot and wounded in separate incidents in East St. Louis.

Police say the girl was asleep in her home early Tuesday when a man knocked on the front door. When he was refused entry, he allegedly sprayed the front of the home with bullets, striking the girl and her parents.

The girl is in critical condition, while her parents are hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The infant was shot in the stomach early Wednesday when someone fired more than a dozen bullets into his home. No one else was injured.

Police say he is in serious but stable condition at a St. Louis-area hospital.

No suspects are in custody in either shooting.
