CARBONDALE (AP) — A special meeting of the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees went off without the conflict that marked a previous meeting.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports Tuesday's meeting resulted in the approval of Lucas Crater of the SIU School of Medicine as interim general counsel.
The meeting contrasted with last week's meeting in Edwardsville, when trustee Roger Herrin and SIU President Glenn Poshard traded accusations over several issues, including the hiring of a general counsel. The clash came after the Illinois Senate rejected three appointments to the board by Gov. Pat Quinn.
The rift between Poshard and Herrin dates to when the board last year refused to give Herrin, appointed by Quinn in 2010, another term as chairman. Some contended Herrin was too involved in day-to-day operations of the university.
