Police targeting gang that spawned alleged killers

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago street gang in which police say the alleged killers of Hadiya Pendleton belong to has become the target of the city's police department.

Chicago Police Organized Crime Bureau chief Nick Roti tells the Chicago Sun-Times ( members of SUWU will be targeted for even minor infractions.

The tactic is similar to what police are doing to the Maniac Latin Disciples, a member of which allegedly wounded two girls in a park in 2011. Hundreds of members of that gang have been arrested for everything from driving with a cellphone to violent offenses.

Roti says someone in SUWU shot and killed an innocent girl and that gang will receive the same treatment.

Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed in a park not far from President Barack Obama's home.
