Field fire

MT. VERNON — —

Jefferson Fire Protection District was called to put out a field fire in the 15000 block of North County Farm Lane about 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The fire is suspected to have been caused by a cigarette being thrown out of a vehicle, then fanned by the windy weather conditions. According to JFPD Chief Mike Huntman, residents should not do any burning outside at this time. "Not only is throwing a butt out the window illegal in Illinois now, but fires can happen," Huntman said.
