INA — — Two Kentucky people have died as a result of injuries sustained Tuesday in an accident at mile marker 81 on Interstate 57 North, just south of Ina.
The deaths have been confirmed by Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Joe Marks. The ISP stated four other passengers suffered major injuries from the accident.
According to the Illinois State Police, a sport utility vehicle and a semi-truck were involved in the crash. The SUV was going southbound on I-57, for unknown reasons, crossed the median and collided with a semi-truck traveling northbound on the interstate.
The fatalities are Jill Gibson, 49, of Hopkinsville, Ky., and a 13-year-old boy, also of Hopkinsville, Ky., riding in the SUV. The driver of the SUV, Megan Michelle Hester, 22, of Maryland Heights, Mo.; and passengers Benjamin Hester of Maryland Heights, Mo.; Chris Gibson, 41, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; and an 11-year-old boy of Hopkinsville, Ky., have received major injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
The Illinois State Police is investigating the cause of the accident.
