MT. VERNON — —
Andrea and Kyle Berryman received a special new years surprise when their baby boy was born Wednesday morning at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.
William Pierce Berryman was born 3:19 a.m. Jan. 1, 2014, the first baby born in Jefferson County for the new year.
Berryman said her due date was Jan. 8, and was scheduled to be induced on Jan. 9, if she didn't go into labor before that day.
A scheduled doctor's visit for a stress test was uneventful on Dec. 30, but things got more exciting on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, when her water broke.
The new addition, her fourth child, decided to take his time entering the world. Berryman said she arrived at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, but had to be further induced at 3 p.m.
"I started pushing at midnight," Berryman said. "I went up for a c-section at 2 a.m., and the baby was born at 3:19 a.m."
William Pierce Berryman entered the world weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 20 inches long.
"We already have to get some new clothes," joked proud father Kyle Berryman. "His feet are stretching out the bottom already."
William is Kyle's first child, and the new father is adjusting to the role.
"This is all new to me," Kyle Berryman said. "I am really excited."
Mom said dad is doing well so far.
"Daddy has already been so good," Andrea Berryman said. "He's helping with diapers and everything. ... He looks just like his daddy."
