It was not just business as usual on Thursday morning at 7 a.m. at Curves.
On that particular morning, Deb Blumeyer walked in for her 3,000th workout.
"It was quite an accomplishment," Blumeyer said. "I can't believe I did it."
The road to the milestone started 13 years ago in January, when Blumeyer received a referral for a workout from her sister.
"My sister used to be a member and she referred me," Blumeyer said. "I went, and I loved it."
For Blumeyer, workouts weren't to lose weight, she needed to gain weight, body mass and undergo toning.
"I was actually underweight," Blumeyer said. "It's a great stress reliever. I'm toned, and to be honest, I'm 58 years old and would say it helps ... with bone density and keeping my bones strong. It just makes me feel good after I do a workout. I can tell when I haven't worked out."
Workouts at Curves are on a series of machines and "recovery" areas.
"They have machines that basically work on all your muscles and have resistance," Blumeyer explained. "It's like resistance training. You work out on each machine for 30 seconds, then get onto a recovery station for 30 seconds, which is a bounce pad. Then you go to the next machine. ... You do each machine 30 seconds with recovery in between for 30 seconds and do two rounds. It takes about 30 minutes. After the workout, there is a stretching session and I do some stretching."
Blumeyer said the ladies she has met there have become good friends.
"There's a lot of socializing and it's great working out with other women and get to know people," Blumeyer said. "The workers, the employees, are just so wonderful. It's not just go in and you're just another person or a number, it's more like family."
Blumeyer has started changing up her routine as well, with Zumba with the machines on Thursday mornings.
"That's been a lot of fun too," Blumeyer said.
On Thursday, everyone celebrated by giving Blumeyer flowers and decorating the gym with balloons and pictures. She also received a shirt proclaiming her 3,000th workout.
"I was surprised," Blumeyer admitted. "It's been a privilege to work out there. I'm so grateful. I know there's a lot of people who work out there and who do a lot of stuff. I just hope what I have done helps other people and is an inspiration."
