Register-News Halloween Bash a success

MT. VERNON — — Close to 1,000 residents attended the Register-New Halloween Bash on Thursday.

"We never expected that so many people would come," said Publisher Bob Dennis. "Two years ago we did a Halloween Bash and we had about 400 people. We had to leave two times to go and get extra candy!"

As many activities were cancelled due to the rain on Halloween, the Register-News Halloween Bash was moved inside the building, providing a warm and dry atmosphere for young and old to enjoy celebrating the holiday.

"We had lines of people out the door, down the block and along Ninth Street," Dennis said. "I was impressed with the kids and how polite and respectful they were. They really enjoyed themselves."

Register-News employees and their families volunteered time and work to put on the Halloween Bash.

"All the employees did great work," Dennis said. "It took a lot of hard work and lots of hours to put this together. We all wanted to have something for the community that was safe, fun and not just kids going out and getting candy. The kids played a lot of games and the Haunted Maze was a big hit. We didn't have that last time."

The Haunted Maze was designed and built by Circulation Director Jimmy Bass and Advertising Director Sheona Hill.

"It was fun putting the maze together," Hill said. "As it started coming together, you could almost anticipate how the kids and the adults going through would react. We wanted to make a big impression on everyone and still be fun for even the youngest participants."

Dennis said the Register-News is already planning for next year's Halloween Bash.

"We're definitely going to have it next year," Dennis said. "And, we're planning for an even bigger crowd."
