Mt. Vernon man killed in accident

MT. VERNON — — A Mt. Vernon man was killed in a single vehicle accident early this morning after striking a deer.

Shawn W. Willard, 30, was eastbound in the 11000 block of Illinois 148 when he struck a deer, causing the vehicle to slide from front to back. The vehicle collided with a culvert, causing the gas tank to rupture.

Willard died from blunt force trauma, according to Coroner Eddie Joe Marks. The accident happened shortly before 6 a.m. and Willard was pronounced at 6:23 a.m.
