MT. VERNON — — Members of the community gathered Thursday afternoon at the Jefferson County Courthouse to commemorate National Day of Prayer, with the theme, "Pray for America." The District 80 Third Grade Chorus participated, singing the National Anthem and the song, "Pray for America." Prayers were offered by Benton Fitzjerrells for government; Tim Reynolds for churches; Capt. Anthony Williams for the military; Dora Riley for the family; Scott Porter for education; Brian Fuller for media; Jim Czerwinski for business; and Bud Storey with a benediction. A welcome was given by Norma Colwell and additional special music was performed by Dr. Dee Ann Schnautz.
100th day of school
Roughly 20 pre-kindergarten and Head Start students celebrated their 100th day of school Thursday at the Dr. Andy Hall Early Childhood Center in Mt. Vernon. The students belong to the class of Miss Felicia and Miss Michelle. Throughout the day, they participated in a variety of activities to mark the occasion, including making 100-day hats, learning a song, marching through the school and more.
