Ameren customers notified of switch

MT. VERNON — — MT. VERNON — Ameren customers in Jefferson County are receiving correspondence this week that their accounts are being switched to a new electric supplier.

Letters are being sent to every household in Jefferson County which is supplied by Ameren; the only households not receiving the letters are for those unincorporated areas of Jefferson County which did not vote on electric aggregation in the March election or residents and/or businesses served by Tri-County Electric Cooperative.

"This is an official notice that they will be switched over to Homefield Energy," said Jeff Haarmann of Affordable Gas and Electric, the consulting agent for Ameren Energy Marketing. "Ameren will still be their utility delivery company, and they will still call them for customer service. This is just notifying them the new rate is going into effect." Questions regarding delivery services — such as power outages, metering or service requests — will still be directed to Ameren at 1-800-232-2477.

The change in suppliers will take effect within two business days of he next scheduled meter reading on July 8, according to the Ameren letter.

Haarmann said customers who agree to switch to Homefield Energy as their new electric supplier do not have to respond to the correspondence from Ameren. Those customers wishing to opt out of the electric aggregate must contact Homefield Energy at 1-866-694-1262.

The city of Mt. Vernon recently executed a 24-month contract with Homefield at a rate of $0.04194.

"Customers will certainly be saving money," City Manager Ron Neibert said when the contract was awarded. "We estimate they will save about $150 per year under this program."

Haarmann added, "The rate will be about 14 percent less than the average utility rate."

All billing will still come from Ameren and residents will see a small line charge on the supply portion of their Ameren bill noting the new Homefield Energy rates.

Additional information about electric aggregation is available by calling AGE at 207-3450 or visit www.agellc.com/aggregation.
