Double fatality in Woodlawn

MT. VERNON — — Two people were killed in a truck-motorycle collision shortly after 9 p.m. Friday in Woodlawn.

Billy Philpot, 53, of Vandalia, and Debra Graham, 50, of Mt. Vernon, were the occupants of the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene at 9:18 p.m. by Coroner Eddie Joe Marks.

The motorcycle was westbound and was struck by an eastbound pickup driven by Neal Dailey, 41, of Woodlawn. Dailey was first taken to Crossroads Community Hospital and then airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital.

Marks said the truck was attempting to turn into the Shell Station at the intersection of Illinois 15 and Woodlawn Road when it turned in front of the motorcycle.

The accident is under investigation by the Illinois State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Marks.
