Special Olympians

MT. VERNON — —

Friday, more than 340 athletes from 30 agencies gathered at the Mt. Vernon Township High School football field for the 31st Annual Southeastern Area 14 Special Olympic Track and Field Athletic competition. The National Anthem was sang by Caleb and Elmo Cain, and the Special Olympic Flame was brought onto the field by Tony Hale, Nathanael Garner, Cameron Peterson and Donyale Black. The four were escorted by members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Cpl. Don Hattendorf, School Resource Officer Steve Barton, Capt. Trent Page and Assistant Chief Chris Deichman.
