MT. VERNON — — Gov. Pat Quinn was in Mt. Vernon on Tuesday to help Continental Tire of the Americas officials open their new railroad spur.
The new $1.2 million railroad spur will help the company bring more resources in and ship out more finished goods to national and international markets.
It was Quinn's sixth trip to Mt. Vernon in recent months, according to Mayor Mary Jane Chesley, who said it was the fourth involving economic development or jobs.
Quinn, Mayor Chesley and Plant Manager Benny Harmse indicated the expansions at CT have developed due to groups working together and to bolster the job climate in Southern Illinois.
